Walking With Jesus

“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus,” Philippines 1:3-6, NIV.
On Sunday, August 10, 2025, God called me into a partnership of prayer with Him.
God had asked me to cover the church in prayer that summer, for our sermon series on Spiritual Warfare. As the series was coming to an end, I began to count down the days I had left. I felt I had listened and followed, and now I was ready to move on. To be honest, getting up every morning to drive to church just to walk and pray was losing its excitement. I was getting ready for something different.
When God called me to continue to walk and pray for a year.
I didn’t respond “Yippy!” Because I was counting down the days….
While worshipping a few minutes later, I was still struggling with my “Yes,” when the Holy Spirit said,
“You know it’s not like I’m asking you to have a three-year ministry that ends in death. I’m asking you to walk the church and pray, daily.”
Greatly humbled by the comparison of what God was asking of me, versus what Jesus had said yes to, I cried and surrendered.
And I continued to walk, daily.
I have walked injured, sick, in bad weather and in good. I have walked as I grieved my mother’s passing, and as family pushed away due to their own grief. I have walked when I was tired and had nothing to say. I walked in bad moods and in great moods. I walked when I couldn’t stop praising God for His goodness.
I walked to learn how wretched I am and to understand the depth of His grace. Which has no end. Thank goodness.
I walked with family.
I walked with friends.
I walked with kids and mentees.
But most of all, I walked everyday with Jesus. He is the provider of my faith, the strength of my conviction, and my deepest fellowship.
I have used prayer books from the 1800’s, 1930’s, 1970’s and the 21 Century. They all say the same thing, "We are a mess without You, LORD. We need You. Thank You for the sacrifice of Your life upon the cross, saving us from a similar fate. Help us to be worthy of it."
I don’t share because I enjoy hearing my own voice, that bit of pride has been diminished. Our faithful Father is currently working on other struggles and sin.
I share because He who began a good work in us will accomplish that goal. I am here to testify of His promise.
I am proclaiming His goodness. I am sharing what God has done, is doing and can do for all of us. When we listen and obey.
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you,” I Peter 5:6-7, NIV.
I want to stay under His righteous hand a bit longer. I am not eager to move away from the weight and security of His presence; as He molds me and corrects me, for His usefulness.
He is and was and is to come. He, our great Savor, LORD and Redeemer. I am nothing without Him, but complete because of Him.
Is He yours?
Father,
To You be the glory and honor and praise. You magnify in us Your presence and freedom.
May we use Your gift of freedom to choose to do right and not wrong. To pray prayers of protection over Your people. To remind others of Your infinite love for all of us. To be Your surrendered servants.
For Your name is the only one that truly matters.
Thank You for sharing it with us.
Amen.
