Small Wonder

“When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place, what is mankind that You are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” Psalm 8:3-4, NIV."
Recently I went to the tide pools. I was amazed at the ocean life trapped in small puddles of water, due to low tide. Tiny creatures swam around while others sought shelter until the tide rose once more. But we who passed by were treated to a beautiful outdoor aquarium.
As I watched, a sea eel swam under the rocks and sea urchins fought in slow motion. It dawned on me the depth of God’s perfect creation. These little pools of water are respites for the smallest of our ocean creatures. God had indeed been mindful of the large and the small. For our tiny ocean friends, small rock caves were provided for shelter during the ebbs of the tides.
God has also built in security for those made in His image, people. During our most turbulent moments God plans to stay with us. We go through our trial or testing in His presence. If we need extra encouragement, all we have to do is ask. He has given us, His children, His Holy Spirit to comfort and to guide us through our deepest and darkest moments. We are never alone.
Like these small oceanic creatures who are exposed to unknown dangers during low tide, God provides safety during their exposure to potentially harmful people, birds and the like.
I have always been uplifted by the fact that if God can take care of these small creatures, He can certainly take care of His children, made in His image. He is mindful of us, and He loves us.
Are we as mindful of Him? Do we notice and appreciate what we have been given?
Father,
You amaze me. I sit at my table and write, while You are helping, leading, protecting, and comforting Your children. You are also teaching us, correcting us and changing us into being better people.
I’d exchange my selfishness for Your tenderness any and every day. I’d gladly replace my selfish ambition with Your humble spirit. If I could be gentler, no one would ever question where it came from. It all comes from You! For You are a good Father.
Thank You that You are still creating a good work in me, as You promised,
“…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus,” Philippians 1:6, NIV.
Father, I love You, always.
Amen.
