Rocks

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another,”
Proverbs 27:17, NIV.
Humans imprint on each other. It’s not just a bird phenomenon, but a statement of tried-and-true reality.
We shape each other’s choices, decisions and influence micro changes in their perspectives, as others do with us.
That’s what God was implying when He said, "Iron sharpens iron." Iron when pressed against another piece of iron will alter its original design.
Recently while traveling with my daughter-in-law/love, I realized I think differently when I’m with her. It’s a beautiful thing to be under someone’s influence that you trust. Though years younger she teaches me how to be a better Christian, and to have a wider understanding of people. She sharpens me for the better.
She harvests rocks for her grandfather on every trip she goes on. Her love and tenderness towards this beloved man has even changed my perception of rocks. I now see a vein of gold running through every stone. Her love for her grandfather has transformed these igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic pieces of earth into valued possessions, as she plows a field looking for her prize's underneath.
She has imprinted on me a fondness for even roadside stones. More than that she makes me want to love others better.
Who has imprinted on you? Who do you influence?
Father,
Your goodness is new every morning. Thank You that You give us the opportunity to see You through another’s eyes. To witness Your character and glory from another child of the King, is a privilege to witness.
Thank You for people in my life that sharpen me for good and not wrongdoing. Thank You for rocks that cycle through the heart of Your earth, being made new, yet maintaining their ancient properties.
Thank You for a new day we can share with You, the Ancient of Days. You are sure, trustworthy and excellent. I, for one, am so thankful to do life with You.
Help us to influence well and honorably. Help us also be aware of the good others share and the not-so-good influences others possess. We need Your wisdom and discernment to know the difference.
We desire to glorify You, love You and serve You, our faithful Father.
Amen
