Let’s Kill God?

“He went on to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard, rented it to some farmers and went away for a long time. At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants so they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed. He sent another servant, but that one also they beat and treated shamefully and sent away empty-handed. He sent still a third, and they wounded him and threw him out. “Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my son, whom I love; perhaps they will respect him.’ “But when the tenants saw him, they talked the matter over. ‘This is the heir,’ they said. ‘Let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. “What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?”
Luke 20:9-15 NIV.
Have you ever read a story or a parable from the Bible and believed you understood it? Have you ever read one and yet never fully understood it? Both are true for me.
I have read and reread the parable of the tenants many times. It’s not that I don’t understand the message, it’s the story that’s so unbelievable. Who in their right mind would think they would actually receive the inheritance from the man whose son they just killed?
No Father, or landowner would turn a blind eye to such an atrocity.
I usually read this parable, I think, these tenants are stupid, and I move on.
Today I prayed and asked God what I was missing from this story? And God answered.
Isn’t this happening now? Isn’t this what your culture is trying to do? They want to get rid of Me, to kill Me, so they can claim the earth as their own. If one believes in evaluation they don’t have to believe in Me. They think I will just go away. They do not understand I Am the Creator God who is eternal. I won’t evaporate into nothingness.
Understanding at last.
We are pride filled humans who believe we have a chance at successful control. Momentary control might be achieved, like the tenants had after killing the first servant. Even victorious control had been believed after the son breathed no more.
But rational, successful control was never theirs. Nor is it ours.
God who created the heavens and the earth did so to bring mankind into a relationship with Him. Not to control them, but to give them life, and life abundantly. He desires to be our God, and we get to choose to be His children.
Yet, many people have forgotten God does have the final word. Like the tenants, they apparently forgot that the landowner would return; and he would have the final say over the inheritance.
God’s word is final, and those who believe otherwise will have a moment of full understanding, at the end.
Hopefully it won’t be too late.
Hopefully we can all see how very much in love God is with us.
Like the vineyard ownwer, God will return. And like the tenant God will deal out justice accordingly.
Are you trying to rob and steal from God that which does not belong to you?
Or have you given back to God what has been given to you? Your life. Your trust. Your devotion.
Father,
Thank You for giving me understanding. It all comes from You. Your thoughts are so much higher than my own.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts,” Isaiah 55:8-9, NIV.
It still humbles me to think that You, Creator God, desires to be my Father. But the proof is there. It has been for almost 50 years. You have taught me, protected me, lead me on Your path of righteousness.
You do this because of Your great love for Your children. Thank You.
Help me to tend and take care of that which You have entrusted to me. I owe you that; actually I owe You more than I can give.
Thank You again for saving mankind. It’s now up to us to help each other understand it.
I love You.
Amen.
