“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty,” Psalm 91:1, NIV.
Have you ever been walking and glanced down at your shadow? I usually look and think, “Are my hips really that big?” I am relieved when I walk under a covering that blocks out my Peter Pan hips.
Today I walked under a solar panel parking lot and straddled the line between sun and shade. Then I walked further into the shade, losing my shadow all together.
I thought that’s what I am supposed to be as a Christian—not straddled, but one willing to be totally engulfed under my father’s wing, sheltering me from all else, and providing a safe place for me to walk. I might have lost my shadow, but I did not lose myself. And I gained so much more. I gained my Heavenly Father’s protection.
Walking under God’s wings of protection one finds shelter from the heat that might represent a hostile environment. Shelter from rain which might represent the arrows that shoot to injure or destroy.
Under God’s protection we are where we are supposed to be as faithful followers.
I watched as I peeked first my head, then my shoulders out from under the solar panels and once again saw my shadowy self. However, I also noticed that I once again began thinking of myself. When I was hidden with God, I didn’t see myself, therefore my favorite distraction was removed. My attention was once again on God.
Mirrors and shadows, what’s your prideful pull? Are you under God’s wing, or watching yourself?
Father,
Thank You for the reminder that You are enough. That You can be trusted even though You are unseen. You can be trusted with our total surrender.
You are really enough.
Help me to focus more on You, and what Your plans are for me to do for You and Your glory—and please keep me hidden in the shadows so I don’t get distracted or in Your way.
You are my Creator God, and I love You.
Amen.
