Cloudy Days

“Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, Lord, preserve both people and animals. How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings,”
Psalm 36:5-7, NIV.
As I walked this morning the temperature, for me, was manageable as long as the sun was shining. Praying is easy when the conditions are right.
But then the clouds blocked the sun and in a moment of time the air was a lot cooler, noticeably cooler. I stopped praying and shivered.
Then I asked the LORD, “Who prays for us when we are faced with the unpleasantness of life?” Not that a cloudy sky is unpleasant, but it reminds me of potential hardships others might be having today.
Who can focus when someone receives bad news or one is thrust into an unplanned situation?
Well, thanks be to God that we all don’t suffer at the same time, and that these sufferings don’t linger too long.
The sun is out again providing warmth that brings hope. Prayer is resumed for the rest of my walk. I will continue to lift up those whom I know are hurting: for the mom whose child is mimicking the prodigal, for the teen who has been abused, for the sick and dying, for those who are fearful, homeless or lonely. Praying for the same peace and comfort of God that I received when others had prayed for me. God truly helps make the hardships bearable.
We need each other as we offer a hand or receive one during personal need.
Remember, when the sun is out and your heart is warm, to pray for those who need it. Pray for those whose warmth is blocked by a cloud, and whose soul is chilled when the sun is hidden.
Life is like a teeter totter, one day you’re up, feeling good, and then there are days when you aren’t very upbeat; you are downtrodden. We need to remember others have days like this as well.
Can we pray for others who are feeling low, as we are on the upswing? For we will need others to lift us up as we face our various trials. We’re in this thing called life, together. Let’s remember to pray for each other.
Father,
You have given us the Spirit of tenacity. The very same Spirit who comforts us one day; He encourages us to pray for and look after others on another day.
We thank You for allowing us to live in a community where we depend on each other. Help us to notice the needs around us. Help us to put into action that which we know is the right thing to do.
Help us to think of others before we think of ourselves. It teaches us how to be selfless as we serve. You are the ultimate example of humility in service, King Jesus. Thank You for showing us it can be done.
We love You,
Amen.

Hi Susie!
Wow! Thank you for this! The analogy of the warmth of the sun sometimes hidden by clouds, to blow through and let the light shine again was super powerful for me. It reminded me to remeber the Lord is there, even on the cloudy days, the clouds will pass. Your words helped me to put the clouds in perspective, sometimes I am in the sun and others are feeling the chill of overcast and the need in those moments to pray for the mighty wind of God to blow those clouds away.
Love you :)
