Anticipatory Delight

“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.”
Galatians 5:25-26, NIV.
My friend is having a baby. When I saw her the other day she was glowing with the anticipation of this new life. What heightened her future delight was the discovery of the baby’s gender. She and her husband have decided to wait until the baby’s appearance.
I started thinking, “Do I anticipate the days God has given me, as this young mom was looking forward to meeting her child?”
Do I ask, “What does my day look like? What offering am I giving my Father in heaven today? What are we going to accomplish together?”
Those questions would definitely help me keep in step with God’s Spirit. But alas, I don’t ask such questions with regularity. I surrender daily, and proclaim on my pages, “Not my will Yours be done,” but then I shut my journal.
My anticipation of a day filled with God usually only occurs when I am intentional with my seeking.
God stands at the door and knocks, (Revelation 3:20). God has indicated His intent, then waits for us to respond. He wants a relationship with His kids, but we need to open the door and draw near to Him (James 4:8) showing our mutual desire.
We can literally walk with God daily. Nothing is preventing us, except our own desire. To keep in step with God, is a choice. The benefits are too numerous to count. He is allowing us to do what He has planned (Eph. 2:10). These acts benefit the kingdom of God and can change the trajectory of a human life.
Did you know there’s something God wants you to do today? There are also things He doesn’t want you to do—like being prideful or envious.
Are you ready to keep in step with the Holy Spirit today doing your right thing? Ask Him what it is?
We can also read His word to see if we are unfortunately out of step. He will let us know in love and truth.
After all, it’s for His glory, and it pleases our Father to see our earnest anticipation.
Father,
We desire to be set aside to be holy as You are holy. We desire to keep in step with Your Holy Spirit.
I must admit, sometimes Your stride seems daunting. When You show up knocking and asking me to walk with You, I don’t know if I have the strength.
Help me remember that the joy of the Lord is my strength; and because of that strength I can match Your stride.
Help me remember the days in which I have opened the door, and received Your goodness.
Create in me a clean heart Oh Lord, so I don’t walk in pride or envy. That I keep my eyes on You. For You are the author and protector of my faith.
Let my “Not my way, Yours be done,” be my moment of surrender, not just a line in my notebook.
You are worthy to be praised, worshiped and adored.
I’m so thankful I am Your child.
Amen.
