God is love:
“7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us,” I John 4:7-12, NIV.
God is good:
“For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations,” Psalm 100:5, ESV.
God is the Almighty:
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty,”
Revelation 1:8, NIV.
God is worthy:
“Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom,” Psalm 145:3, NIV.
When my boys were young, we’d play the "ABCs game" in the car— “What begins with “A?” And of course, apple was their go-to choice, probably because they had slices in their hands.
As they got older, we switched the game to the "ABCs of God."
"What is an attribute or character trait of God that begins with “A?” I'd ask my boys.
"He's 'A' really nice God." One of them would reply. Simple and child-like.
As the years passed their vocabulary increased, and so did their list of attributes. We stopped playing our game in the car, as they were driving themselves. But they continued to play and recite the "ABCs of God’s" when they couldn’t fall asleep at night.
I still list my attributes when I have trouble falling asleep, and rarely have I needed “Z,” before I am out. It’s relaxing thinking about how good God is, how faithful and trustworthy. He gets the praise; I get to be reminded of how patient God has been with me.
I’d love to encourage you to make your own list of attributes that you find worthy of God. However, I’d love to challenge you to find a Bible verse that is appropriate for God’s powerful character.
Will you accept this challenge?
Watch out, it might change the way you view God, which might just change the trajectory of your life. It did mine.
Father,
Thank You for being forever faithful to Your family. For Your forgiveness and friendship. We love You.
Thank You for Your honor and how it helps Your humble children take heed to Your humanity towards us. We love You.
Thank You for Your goodness. It’s great to get and give away the gracious gifts of God. We love You.
Thank You for awesome attributes that make us aware of Your abilities and actions which create the desire to abide by Your way. We love You.
In the Name of Jesus,
Amen.
