A Moon's Perspective

“Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” Psalms‬ ‭8‬:‭1‬, ‭3‬-‭4‬, NIV‬‬.

Did you know each month’s full moon has its own identifiable name? July’s full moon (which is on the 29th), is called the Raspberry Moon—because berries are at its peak. It’s also known as a Buck Moon due to the size of the antlers on an adolescence buck. These names, and there are many like them, all depend on where one lives. Each region has its own unique name.

I noticed the waning crescent moon the other day and wondered what our perspective of this sliver would be called. It would vary widely due to the point of view of the seer.

A child might have a man fishing off of its point, influenced our movie industry. Whereas an astronomer might see the whole moon in their imagination, while noticing just a bit of light. They both know the moon hasn’t disappeared.

Since perspective is subjective it’s important to ask the person next to you what they see or think. In my experience, when I have shared my perspective, without recognizing anyone else’s, I leave believing we are all in harmony. And that is not necessarily the case. At times my companion’s manners shelter me from disagreements.

I have come to realize there are as many opinions and perspectives as there are people. It’s up to us to take the time to find our perpendicular moments.

I am thankful for the family of believers. Though we are from different backgrounds, we share in God’s firm foundation. His perspective is true, right and uniquely reliable. One I have grown to trust. When standing on His foundation, my perspective changes, and I begin to see more clearly.

It’s as if the moon has a point of view, and I am privy to it. The moon says, “I am still here, sometimes you just need to have patience to see me. But trust I will return to give you light.”

God is like that at times, “You might not always see Me, but trust Me, I haven’t gone anywhere.”

When I have God’s perspective, my own thoughts and opinions wane like the moon, disappearing bit by bit so His light can shine brighter.

Are you walking with God’s perspective? Or are you still listening to your own?

Father,

I love the fact that You use nature to point us back to You! You created the sun, moon and stars, and they are evident of Your majesty and power. Thank You for such an amazing aspect of Your creation.

Help me to take heed and look for Your perspective. Also help me as I learn to hear other’s points of view. And give me wisdom as I share Your point of view with them.

You are so worthy to be praised and quoted. Thank You for all that You have made.

Amen.

I too love how God reveals Himself through what He has created. There are so many analogies we can make to our lives, both physically and spiritually, when we are attentive to His unlimited creative powers. That is, if we have developed 'eyes to see and ears to hear'. Undoubtedly that's why everyone is going to be held to account one day: "For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities -- his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God." (Romans 1:20) Thanks for drawing our attention to just another one of these amazing revelations He's provided…
